Trade Bad Habits for Good Ones

Talk to Yourself by Mike Quick

When you talk or think about things, sound isn’t important. What is important is listening and providing the rational (human) section of the brain a chance to make points. Much too often, the emotional (mammal) section of the brain fails to provide the rational section time to illuminate important details.

Extremely bad important decisions are often made when emotions over-ride rational long-term decision making. Activate Your Brain by Scott G. Halford provides plenty of footnotes and explanations concerning this topic. Sadly, emotional (short-term) decisions often lead to life changing or life ending mistakes.

Paying too much for something is the most frequent emotional mistake. As long as a person can afford to waste money, that isn’t important. Substance abuse is probably one of the second most frequent emotional mistakes. Abuse can eventually lead to a low quality of life (un-happiness) and/or a short life. Listening to the human section of the brain can help stop over-eating and other substance abuse. Listening to the human section of the brain takes time and a focus on details. Providing time to focus is time well spent. It can save money and it can save lives.

Mindset: The New Psychology of Successby Carol Dweck, Ph.D., provides a road map to help change bad habits to good ones. The new psychology of success is to find ways to change bad habits to good ones. Basically, provided time and effort; the human (rational) section of the brain can train the mammal (emotional) section to switch bad habits to good ones.

The human section of the brain is a Super Hero. With a little practice, this Super Hero can progressively make it much easier to convert bad habits to good ones. Robert H. Lustig, MD, MSL writes about “Pleasure Junkies” and “Finding True Happiness” in his book titled; “The Hacking of the American Mind“.  If you talk to yourself, listen to the human section of your brain.                                                                                           Read important books and find true happiness.
